Square Launches a Conversational Voice AI Kiosk for Quick-Service Restaurants

Square introduced a new self-service kiosk on October 14, 2026, combining a conversational voice agent with a 21.5-inch touchscreen and integrated payments. Customers can ask menu questions, request substitutions, and switch between speaking and touching the display during an order.

On October 14, 2026, Square unveiled its new flagship Square Kiosk for quick-service restaurants. The device combines AI-powered software, conversational voice capabilities, and a large touchscreen to help restaurants manage busy periods and staffing constraints. Square says the voice layer understands a seller's menu and responds in real time, allowing guests to order in much the same way they would speak with a member of staff.

The voice agent can answer menu questions, recommend popular items, handle modifications, and work through substitutions. Square says recommendations can reflect what is popular at a particular location or time of day, as well as items already in the cart. Customers can move between voice and touch throughout the interaction, while a 21.5-inch display shows menu imagery and order details.

The hardware includes presence detection, integrated card payments, and a barcode scanner for gift cards, with packaged-goods scanning described as coming soon. Guests can optionally connect a Neighborhoods profile or Square Loyalty account to earn and redeem rewards. Square also announced tools for larger restaurant franchises to manage menus, reporting, and gift cards across multiple accounts while allowing franchisees to retain local control.

Square Kiosk became available on the announcement date, starting at $1,999 with a counter stand. It requires a Square Plus or Premium subscription and a separate $99 monthly software fee per device; the underlying subscription is billed in addition to that fee. The launch brings conversational voice AI into an ordering device that also handles payments and loyalty, giving restaurant operators a concrete deployment option beyond a standalone voice assistant.
