Icelandic Startup Treble Raises $18 Million to Simulate Sound for Voice AI and Physical AI

Reykjavík-based Treble Technologies has raised an $18 million Series A-2 extension led by Paladin Capital Group, bringing total funding above $40 million. The startup's physics-based acoustic simulation platform generates synthetic audio data for voice AI models, hardware makers, and a growing roster of robotics and wearable customers.

On September 17, 2026, Reykjavík-based Treble Technologies announced an $18 million Series A-2 extension led by Paladin Capital Group, with participation from existing investors KOMPAS VC, Frumtak Ventures, the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, and Omega ehf. The round follows a $12 million investment in 2024 and brings the company's total raised to more than $40 million (€36 million). Treble was founded in 2020 by acoustic engineers Finnur Pind, its CEO, and Jesper Pedersen.

Treble's cloud platform uses physics-based acoustic modeling to simulate how sound travels through physical spaces, combining acoustic simulation, digital twins, and synthetic data generation across different rooms, materials, vehicles, devices, and ambient sound environments. Voice AI companies use it to generate synthetic audio for speech enhancement, noise suppression, and model training, and to evaluate models under acoustic conditions that are hard to reproduce in the lab. The company says the approach cuts prototype testing and audio data collection 'from months to days,' and that its pre-packaged datasets reduce speech recognition error rates by 38%. Earlier this year Treble partnered with Hugging Face to launch a benchmark for speech recognition models across realistic conditions.

The startup counts Amazon and Logitech among its customers, and both supplied statements for the announcement. 'In many stages of developing Alexa as an AI assistant, we rely on virtual acoustic environments to accelerate product design and model development,' said Wontak Kim, senior audio research manager at Amazon. Andy Harper, head of audio AI and signal processing at Logitech, said the simulations cover acoustic environments that are hard to reproduce or test at scale: 'The fidelity of the underlying physics gives us confidence in those simulations.' Treble also sells to architects and engineers alongside product manufacturers and AI developers.

The new capital will support US market expansion, platform development, and go-to-market work, with a sharpened focus on physical AI — robotics, wearables, head-mounted devices, and autonomous vehicles that must hear as well as see. CEO Finnur Pind framed the thesis: 'Audio AI is really a data challenge... We believe that accurate physics simulation can be an alternative way to create data for sound.' François Ruether, vice president at Paladin Capital Group, argued that today's robots can detect what is in front of them but cannot interpret sounds like 'someone falling in another room or a crash around a corner,' and called multimodal visual-auditory capability essential to making robots useful and safe around people. As The Next Web noted, Meta is preparing camera-free smart glasses that rely on voice — a product category that would depend on exactly the acoustic testing Treble sells.
