Meta Connect 2026: Muse Gets Real-Time Voice, Realtime Avatars, and a Pocket Device Called Muse Charm

At Meta Connect 2026, Meta made its personal AI agent Muse the centerpiece of the event, adding a real-time voice mode, interactive Realtime Avatars, hands-free access on AI glasses, and Muse Charm — a keychain-sized device running Muse's real-time voice model. The announcements followed a week in which Meta's stock jumped 11.43% in a single session, adding roughly $200 billion in market value.

At Meta Connect 2026, held at the company's Menlo Park headquarters on September 23, Meta made its personal AI agent Muse the centerpiece of the event — and gave it a voice. Zuckerberg described Muse as the 'centerpiece' of Meta's outlook for AI, and chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said having an agent that acts on a person's behalf has been 'a sign of someone who is completely AI-pilled,' adding that Meta is bringing 'personal superintelligence' to everyone, according to The Asahi Shimbun. The headline voice feature: a real-time voice mode that lets users talk to Muse conversationally while the agent continues working on tasks in the background — something Meta notes differs from typical voice assistants.

The voice upgrades extend beyond the phone. Muse Realtime Avatar turns the AI into an interactive digital avatar with synchronized speech that responds more naturally, and users will be able to have real-time voice conversations and video chats with an agent customized to look and sound unique. Muse is coming to Meta's AI glasses for hands-free access, where it can act on what the wearer is looking at — a product on a shelf or a flier on a wall — without needing a description. As the 'one more thing,' Zuckerberg unveiled Muse Charm, a pocket-sized, keychain-style device packing the 'whole Muse experience' built around Muse's real-time voice model, which Meta aims to ship in time for the December holidays. Meta also announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first audio-only glasses with open-ear speakers, up to 12 hours of battery life, and Clubmaster and Burbank styles, starting at $349 in October.

The announcements capped a dramatic week for Meta's consumer AI push. Meta shares closed Monday at $741.25, an 11.43% single-session gain that added roughly $200 billion in market value on the debut of Muse — with CNBC reporting surging downloads and drawing comparisons against ChatGPT, Grok, and Claude, according to 24/7 Wall St. Meta said daily interactions with Meta AI rose 60% after the assistant was rebuilt and integrated with Muse Spark, and the company's distribution advantage is enormous: 3.60 billion daily active people across its family of apps. Muse has partnered with companies including OpenTable, Spotify, and Ticketmaster so the agent can complete bookings and purchases, positioning it directly against the assistant efforts of OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.

The market question is retention and monetization. Muse has no disclosed revenue model, set against a 2026 capital-expenditure forecast of $130 to $145 billion; Meta's Q2 capex hit $30.12 billion, up 82% year over year, while free cash flow fell to $784 million from $8.55 billion and operating margin compressed to 31% from 43%. Wall Street remains bullish — the average analyst price target sits at $755.28 with 47 buy and 8 strong-buy ratings and zero sells — but the deciding variable, as 24/7 Wall St. put it, is whether daily engagement holds through the holiday-season launch of Muse Charm and a paid tier converts. With real-time voice, avatars, and audio-first hardware now bundled into a single agent strategy, Meta is making its biggest bet yet that voice is the interface consumers will use to talk to AI everywhere.
